Watch the calendar, not just the price
The biggest trap is booking a room or pass for a holiday week without realizing it. Chinese New Year and other winter festivals spike both prices and crowds. Always check the lunar calendar against your dates before you commit. A ‘great deal’ in February can be a holiday-week trap.
Beware listings that look too good
On open marketplaces, suspiciously cheap base-village rooms are often unavailable, double-listed, or mislabeled. Book through the resort’s official channel or a known platform, and confirm the booking by message before you travel. If a ‘host’ asks for bank transfer off-platform, walk away.
Pay in the right way
WeChat Pay and Alipay dominate; international cards are hit or miss at smaller properties. If you are coming from abroad, set up a local payment method through a friend or agent, or book where cards are accepted. Keep screenshots of every confirmation, because signal in mountain towns is unreliable.
Transfers and drivers
Agree on a total price before the ride, not a meter that ‘mysteriously’ climbs in the snow. Use a driver your hotel recommends or one you used before. For multi-day, negotiate a daily rate and confirm it covers waiting time while you ski.
Buy passes ahead
