The 7-Day Xinjiang Ski Itinerary We’d Actually Recommend

If someone asked me to plan their one week in Xinjiang for the best skiing, this is the route I would build. It balances convenience, variety, and the famous powder without frantic transfers. Adjust for ability, but the shape is sound.

Days 1-2: Urumqi and Silk Road

Arrive in Urumqi, sleep near the city, and spend day two at Silk Road resort. It is the easiest snow in the region and shakes off travel legs. Details in our Silk Road guide. Keep it light; you have bigger mountains ahead.

Day 3: Travel north

Take the train or a flight north to Altay. An overnight train saves a hotel night and avoids flight delays. Arrive, settle, rest. Our train guide explains the leg.

Days 4-6: Altay powder

Three days around Altay, with one day at Jikepulin for the deep stuff and one at Keketuohai for long cruisers. The terrain is in our Altay Jikepulin resort guide and Keketuohai guide. Insert a hot-spring or rest evening so you do not fade.

Day 7: Easy out

A final morning, then travel back toward Urumqi or your departure point with buffer for weather. Do not book a tight international connection the same night.

Why this works

You get convenience (Silk Road), mileage (Keketuohai), and powder (Altay) without backtracking. One true travel day, one rest evening, and maximum time on snow. The transfer logic is in our multi-resort guide.

Variations

Add a Burqin foodie night, swap a ski day for dog sledding, or extend Altay if you are powder-obsessed. The frame holds; the details bend to you.
