Pros: you wake up at the mountain, the heating is reliable, and the front desk can arrange passes and transfers. Cons: it costs more, the restaurant is the only restaurant, and the vibe is generic. For a short, ski-focused trip, the convenience easily justifies the premium. You will be on the first lift while guesthouse guests are still driving in.
The local guesthouse
Pros: lower price, warmer personal touch, and often better home-cooked food. You meet locals and other travelers, which is its own reward. Cons: variable quality, thinner soundproofing, and a commute to the slopes that bites on cold mornings. The best ones are run by families who genuinely care; the weak ones are just cold rooms.
Price reality
Guesthouses can run well below the resort hotels, sometimes half, but the gap narrows in peak weeks when everything fills. Do not assume a guesthouse is automatically cheap in February. Check what is included: breakfast, transfers, and heating can swing the real cost.
How to choose
If the mountain is the point and your time is short, take the hotel. If you want to save money, meet people, and do not mind a drive, a good guesthouse is lovely. Either way, read recent reviews and confirm heating before you pay, because a cold room ruins a ski trip faster than a short lift line.
